More about Interfaith Shelter Network

For the past 30 years, the San Diego Interfaith Shelter Network (ISN) has provided shelter to more than 9,000 people for more than 237,000 nights.  This is made possible through the cooperative efforts of more than 120 congregations working in seven different regions of San Diego.  This program provides night-time seasonal shelter, food, and professional case management to San Diego’s situationally homeless by rotating in two week increments as guests in our communities’ congregations.

The San Diego Interfaith Shelter Network cares for short-term homeless men, women, and children by arranging shelter for them at churches throughout the county. Journey has participated in this effort for 5 years. Those helped are situationally homeless, loss of income or unanticipated expenses having left them temporarily homeless.

The Shelter at Journey

From Nov. 30 – Dec. 14, Journey will be hosting 12 or so homeless men, women and/or children as a part of JCC’s Annual Shelter. Our guests will spend the night in their short-term home and are gone during the day looking for work and taking care of business. There are tons of opportunities to serve people who need our help and friendship!

What do we do?

·      Shelter is provided each night in the Far Room for about 12 people (men, women and children);

·      Three meals are provided each day – a simple breakfast, bag lunch and hot dinner;

·      Provide rides;

·      Hosting;

·      Visiting; and/or

·      Praying.

Would you like to help?  Well, we are looking for volunteers to serve!  Pick an item or items from this list and let us know.  It may be as simple as hanging out for an evening(s) or making/providing meals.

By the way, this is a great opportunity for you to involve your family or small group. It’s Really Easy and Rewarding.

Please contact Abby if you would like to participate.
