For the last 12 years the Grossmont Healthcare District, La Mesa Park & Recreation Foundation and the City of La Mesa have presented Kid’s Care Fest. This is a family-oriented event open to the public and featuring free health care screenings, the focus of the event. Organizers expect that more than 1,000 children will receive free, potentially life-saving, health care screenings, including hearing, vision and dental screenings, from healthcare professionals. Also available at the event will be free medical information from pediatricians, dermatologists and pharmacists, along with free kids fingerprinting from the La Mesa Police Department and La Mesa Rotary Club.
Last year, the City of La Mesa and Grossmont Healthcare District asked Journey to participate, providing crafts and face-painting. We did and will do so again this year.
We will need 20+ people to do face-painting or to sit with kids as they prepare crafts. The crafts are simple, mini-mini projects that we get from Oriental Trading. They are individually wrapped and you simply open and assemble them. Even I can do it! Face-painting also is simple. There will be one or two expert face painters in our group to help. Volunteers assist where they feel comfortable!
This year’s Kids Care Fest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Briercrest Park, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers can serve for part or all of the time!
