Dave Schmelzer of Blue Ocean Faith gives an introduction to the conference coming up June 6 & 7 right here at Journey.

Churches and churchgoers from around the country are discovering new found spiritual vitality, fresh connection with the cities around them, and a revitalized sense of purpose and motivation through connecting with what’s being called a “Blue Ocean” take on faith in Jesus. Join Dave Schmelzer (Not the Religious Type: Confessions of a Turncoat Atheist) and Blue Ocean pastors Adey Wassink (Sanctuary Church in Iowa City) and Charles Park (The River Church in Manhattan) for a look at what this fresh take is and how it’s been giving people a new understanding of their own, unique journey with God and how that that helps them thrive in the dynamic, often secular cities we live in. Phyllis Tickle, bestselling author and founder of Publisher’s Weekly’s religion page, said after a recent Blue Ocean conference: “I will never forget those three days, and I can’t say that about many conferences, believe me. I felt like something was a-borning right in front of my eyes.”

Find Fresh Connection to Jesus through Immanuel Prayer – Adey Wassink

Immanuel Prayer is a prayer practice that brings the presence of Jesus into traumatic events from our past. Developed by a Christian psychiatrist, Immanuel first connects us to Jesus through awareness of his personal goodness to us, and then makes way for Jesus himself to lead into whatever comes next. Immanuel is both simple and powerful, and while developed for healing, the lasting fruit is a deep and wonderful knowing of the constant nearness of Jesus.

Love Your Life So You Can Love Others – Charles Park

Our self-talk tends to sabotage us, and we don’t even know it!  Time-honored spiritual wisdom helps us connect to our actual self so that we can engage with self, God, and others in healthy, life-giving ways even as we’re freed from guilt and shame.

Explore the Ins and Outs of Centered-Set Faith – Dave Schmelzer

For many people, centered-set faith is a radically helpful way to experience Jesus ourselves even as we offer relationship with him to our friends and neighbors. It often makes immediate sense to those of us who’ve experienced faith from a nonchurchgoing background. But those of us who’ve grown up in churches often need to do a little more work to experience its benefits. This workshop will offer a free-flowing conversation on all of those things.

About Blue Ocean Inc.

Blue Ocean Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 public non-profit organization that operates primarily off of donations. The goal of Blue Ocean Inc. is to foster a spiritual awakening among our friends and neighbors in secular cities and towns in the western world. We believe that anyone can connect with God from wherever they’re at—within their own culture, race, and religion (or lack thereof)—and that this is best done in community through genuine give-and-take dialogues about faith.
