Summer Lunch Program in La Mesa
You’ve heard the stats! Fourteen percent (14%) of San Diego families do not have access at all times to enough food for a healthy life. Forty percent (40%) of our school kids qualify (based on family income levels) for a free breakfast. Seventy-five percent (75%) qualify for a free lunch. But what happens during the summer? Out of school and no access to these benefits?
For the last three years, the Interfaith Council of La Mesa, with which Journey participates, has provided a free lunch to children under the age of 18, Monday through Friday, for the entire summer. The program takes place at Vista La Mesa Christian Church, 100 feet south of University on Massachusetts.
