Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered how vast and enormous the universe is? Looking at the stars with the naked eye doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how expansive the universe is that God created. This leads me to remember how small I am and how BIG God is. There is so much humility in the one as BIG as our Creator becoming as small as I am. Jesus sacrificed all the glory of heaven to come be a humble human. This truth helps me reset my outlook when I lack humility in situations when I don’t get my way or have to swallow my pride.
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”
Philippians 2:5-8
Advent is about anticipating, waiting, and yearning for the Divine to make itself small and come be with us. Immanuel, God with us.
