The Holy Spirit spoke a promise to us thousands of years ago through the mouth of Isaiah the prophet. (Isaiah 9:6)
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…” Jesus, wrapped in a child, has been given as a gift to us. He is ours.
“…And the government will be on his shoulders…” Who is He? He is One who can handle the full weight of ruling the world. He alone is worthy to be the most powerful person on earth, this King of Kings and Lord of Lords! And He is ours.
“…And he will be called Wonderful Counselor…” What is He like? He fills you with wonder. Your heart burns within you when He speaks. In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge; so from His mouth flow the beautiful riches of His heart. And He is ours.
“…the Mighty God…” In a world where we often feel powerless, this Mighty One is devoted to us. His power is a current running from Him through us filling us with His strength. And He is ours.
“…Everlasting Father…” We are children whose earthly fathers may be absent, distant, or destructive. Even the most loving father will eventually fade from our lives. But in Jesus, we have a “Forever Father” who will love, protect, and teach us throughout eternity. He is ours.
“Prince of Peace…” In the midst of our chaotic world and often turbulent lives, we see a Prince who is with us in the boat of our circumstances and speaks peace, not only to stormy skies and whirling waves, but to our hearts. He is ours.
This Wonderful, Mighty, Everlasting Prince is all the prophet promised He would be! Today, say with confidence, “He is mine and I am His!
