A Word about Faith

by Linda Mullen

Faith is such a big word. Sometimes I think I have great faith, and sometimes little. I’ve gone through seasons of holding up my faith ruler and taking inventory at the end of the day. That just caused frustration because my measurement of faith was much different than God’s. This is what He says about it.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. —Hebrews 11:6.

Is it possible that God’s greatest pleasure comes from us simply believing that He exists and that He enjoys blessing us for that belief? Yes. Because faith is not a momentary reaction that comes and goes with waves of emotion. Faith is the lifestyle we live when we choose to follow Jesus. Each step we take is planted firmly on a Savior Who is able to catch us when we fall, strengthen us when we feel weak, and cause us to be really happy when we see Him!

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy.
— Jude 1:24

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. — Hebrews 11:1

Faith needs hope. Our dreams and desires paint the picture of hope. What are your hopes? Do you dream with God? Sort through your hopes with God. Do you believe He wants to meet them?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. — Hebrews 11:1

Faith needs action. If you believe that what you are hoping lines up with the character of God and His plan for your life, then match your actions with what you are believing. Ask the Lord if you need to change any actions.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. — Hebrews 11:1

Faith believes before seeing. Sometimes remembering when God answered prayer in the past helps us believe for the future. Write down some answers to prayer that you have experienced.

Wednesday, December 18

Faith causes things to happen. Go through the gospels and read the times that Jesus commended someone for their faith.

Thursday, December 19

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8-9

Faith comes from God. Our faith is not in our faith. Our faith is in God and it is given to us as a gift from God. Are there any places in your life where you are trying to carry things by your own faith? Ask God to show you why you are having trouble shifting your own faith to Him.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. — Galatians 5:6

Faith works by love. Nothing in the Kingdom of God works separate from love because God is love. He doesn’t just have love; He is love. Ask God to show you how love is working through your faith.

Make this a day of celebration! Do something fun with friends and God. Invite Him—He loves going places with you and sharing your joy.ith.
