Prayer for Our Region (November 1, 2020)
Heavenly Father, during this moment in time as “Your people called by Your name, we come together humbling ourselves and praying and seeking Your face and turning from our wicked ways.
Father our collective prayer is that You will hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. We pray that Your eyes will be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 & 15)
Father, though we see, hear and experience divisions, discord and destruction within our nation, we cling to the words of the psalmist, who reminds us in Psalm 133 of what is like when we dwell in unity.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron’s beard,
Coming down upon the edge of his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the LORD commanded the blessing—life forever.”
It is in that spirit of unity, the spirit of togetherness, Father, that we approach Your throne of grace and mercy and collectively seek to seize this precious moment for good.
We seek, wisdom & understanding as we prepare to exercise the privilege of voting,
We seek, outcomes of the elections across our nation that honor You,
We seek, courage to govern well for those who are ultimately elected,
We seek, to love one another as You have loved us,
We seek, physical health, mental well-being and healing from the Coronavirus (COVID-19),
We seek, the strength to stand against the contentiousness that grips our land, We seek, to walk as peacemakers among those who feel angst and anger,
We seek, to flourish in the fruits of Your Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Gal 5:22-23)
Father, most certainly we seek Your will be done and not ours. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
