We are about halfway through this amazing season at Journey called Soul Revolution and it’s been amazing. It really has been, but that sentence contained to of the maddeningly overused words in modern parlance.
Everything is “AMAZING”… the birth of your child, the French fries you are eating, the shoes you bought… you get the point. In some circles “REVOLUTION” is right up there. Everything is a “revolution” or “revolutionary”. So when we talk about “SOUL REVOLUTION” we only have the REV part if we CHANGE. So for a couple of weekends we are looking at how the revolution works itself all the way to the practical edged of our lives.
There was anointing on our worship and it was obvious. It carried all the way through SELAH (once a month we do a night of Worship and WHATEVER the Holy Spirit wants).
One of our people made his own low-tech, non-smartphone-required version of tsiytsith (tassels – See Numbers 15:39). I’m obviously pretty geeked-up about it.
One of the main ideas is that we work it out AND (not OR) God is at work doing the change. I don’t know of a passage that puts these next to each other any better than this. (This comes right out of my notes).
Phil. 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed [hupakuw – made of listen-under, OT ShM’ah], not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out [NOT work for – work the revolution out to your fingers and toes] your salvation with fear and trembling; [not fear of getting bonked by God – but the woe]
SLIDE QUOTE “It is a serious thing,” says Lewis, “to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship” C.S. Lewis – The Weight of Glory
13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Next weekend we’ll be thinking about this some more! Can’t wait!
